Amaala is a megaproject in Saudi Arabia, aligning with the nation's Vision 2030 program. Encompassing three distinct developments: The Coastal Development, Amaala Island, and Triple Bay. This project is an initiative towards achieving Saudi Arabia's commitment to diversify its economy and promote sustainable tourism. Under the patronage of Prince Mohammed bin Salman and managed by the Public Investment Fund, Amaala is set to span an expansive 3,800 square kilometers.
Scheduled for completion by 2028, Amaala is designed to be a beacon of art, wellness, and the pristine beauty of the Red Sea. The first phase was initially targeted for completion by 2020, marking a significant step towards realising the project's vision. Amaala aims to offer an integrated family wellness destination, where visitors can immerse themselves in restorative experiences across diverse interests, including sea and sun activities, sports, arts, and culture. Covering an extensive area of 4,000 square kilometers, the destination is positioned to provide unparalleled and unforgettable experiences for all who venture into its embrace.
As a nod to environmental stewardship, sustainability takes center stage in Amaala's development. With only 5% of the area earmarked for construction, the remaining 95% is dedicated to preservation, safeguarding the region's diverse ecosystems and local culture. Amaala is committed to operating on 100% renewable energy, maintaining a zero-carbon footprint, and contributing no waste to landfills. Amaala emerges not only as a destination for immersive experiences but as a symbol of forward-thinking, sustainable tourism that harmonizes with nature and cultural heritage.
The Amaala Project has unfolded as a meticulously planned endeavor, seamlessly progressing in its development journey. Marking a significant milestone, the Public Investment Fund (PIF) orchestrated the merger of AMAALA with the Red Sea Development Company (TRSDC), giving rise to Red Sea Global (RSG). While the expansive Red Sea Project is slated to host 50 hotels and 8,000 hotel keys, Amaala, a distinguished component of RSG, is set to feature over 30 hotels and 3,000 hotel rooms.
The inaugural strides of the Amaala Project materialised with the establishment and construction of its premier development, Triple Bay. This phase has witnessed a steady pace, complemented by the creation of a 5,000-unit construction village catering to contractors involved in the project. Notably, an agreement with Haif Trading and Contracting Co. has been forged for the comprehensive infrastructural development of the Employee Village in Triple Bay.
In March 2023, Red Sea Global awarded a substantial SR1 billion ($270 million) contract to KSA-based Al-Ayuni Investment and Contracting Co. This collaboration aims at constructing the infrastructure and utilities integral to the project's first phase, with a commitment to maintaining carbon neutrality during the construction process, aligning with Amaala's visionary sustainability goals.
A significant collaboration was announced in July 2023, as Red Sea Global partnered with Equinox, a global leader in luxury lifestyle brands, to establish Equinox AMAALA. This distinctive hotel, embedded in the Triple Bay development, will prioritise sports, fitness, and lifestyle, featuring 128 keys, including luxurious penthouses and a suite of amenities such as world-class culinary concepts, a magnesium salt rooftop pool, spa, Beach Club, and a signature Equinox Fitness Club.
Anticipation surrounds Amaala's completion, with the first phase encompassing nine hotels and 1,300 rooms scheduled to be finalised by mid-2024. The project has garnered substantial financial support, raising almost SAR 5-10 billion (USD 1.3-2.7 billion) for its initial phase. Over 250 contracts have been awarded to date, exceeding a cumulative worth of 5 billion riyals. Upon completion, Amaala is poised to offer more than 3,000 hotel rooms across 25 hotels, approximately 900 residential villas, estate homes, 200 high-end retail establishments, and a curated blend of fine dining, wellness, and recreational facilities.
Led by CEO, John Pagano, the team, with recognised leaders from both international and Saudi backgrounds, Amaala is contributing to global development, with a focus on reimagining what’s possible for the tourism sector.
Red Sea Global (RSG) is the force behind Saudi Arabia's ambitious projects, including THE RED SEA and AMAALA. First founded in 2018 under the name The Red Sea Development Company (TRSDC), it is a closed joint stock company wholly owned by the Public Investment Fund (PIF).
Triple Bay
AMAALA's first phase of development is focused on its Triple Bay masterplan, which will offer around 1,300 rooms in eight hotels - the first batch opening in 2024. When completed in 2027, AMAALA will have over 3,000 hotel rooms across 25 hotels, 943 luxury residential villas, as well as high-end retail and food outlets, a yacht club, wellness, and recreational facilities. Set against a backdrop of mountains and sparkling seas and running alongside a coastline of beautiful coves, this seascape will offer one of the world's most exclusive wellness retreats supported by luxury resorts, recreational activities, a sports performance academy, and active sports club facilities including equestrian, polo, camel racing, falconry, golf, and tennis.
Marine Life Institute
The Marine Life Institute combines futuristic lab spaces with unmatched underwater expeditions. It will function as both a scientific research centre and a tourist destination. With 10 zones that provide everything from augmented reality experiences to night diving, and spaces for the scientific community to effectively progress their environmental projects, the Marine Life Institute will be undeniably unique. Expected to host up to 650 people at any one time, guests will be able to walk underwater, snorkel with rare species, participate in lab tours and dive the depths of the Red Sea in a submarine. Set within the AMAALA destination on the west coast of Saudi Arabia and located on the waterfront of Triple Bay, the 10,340 square metre institute will comprise three levels – one above ground and two below – and offer stunning panoramic views of the Red Sea and the marina.
The Yacht Club
The signature 7,900sqm yacht club set over four floors is the centrepiece of stunning marina development plans. It seeks to provide guests with uniquely memorable experiences in a spectacular setting. The ultra-luxurious club will be creating a home away from home for its members whether to do business, relax, entertain or take part in a calendar of yachting events. The regeneration marina hopes to attract motorboats and sailors from all backgrounds, hosting annual sporting events, including annual international regattas. The 120-berth marina can accommodate yachts up to 425 ft (130m) in length. Berths are expected to average 100 ft, with room for several superyachts out the front, all of which will benefit from a dedicated tender vessel to transport guests from their yacht directly to the VIP entrance at sea level.
