Arla Foods initially owned Sadafco. The company's founding was motivated by the need to expand the region's capacity for self-sufficiency in food production and to satisfy the growing demand for dairy and food products in the area. In 1990, three dairy companies merged to formally establish SADAFCO. By 2005, an initial public offering (IPO) resulted in the company's listing on the Saudi Arabian Stock Exchange, Tadawul.
In 2016, SADAFCO embarked on its solar panels project to provide solar energy to its regional center in Riyadh, becoming one of the pioneering companies to embrace solar energy initiatives. Transitioning from its initial focus on long-life milk, SADAFCO diversified its product portfolio. In 2018, SADAFCO acquired a 76% stake in Poland’s Mlekoma for SAR 120 million. The following year, in 2019, SADAFCO finalized the Jeddah Central Warehouse, the largest within its network, which is now operational.
In 2020, SADAFCO inaugurated the largest ice cream factory in the Middle East, under the auspices of HE Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources Bandar bin Ibrahim Alkhorayef. In 2022, SADAFCO launched its inaugural Sustainability Report concurrently with the signing of its first Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) agreement. In 2023, the company extended its business operations into Oman following the successful negotiation of a deal to sell and export its products to the Omani market.
